My favorite cheating spouse story

When people find out that we are private investigators, we commonly get asked for our best PI story. This one is one of my favorites. The story is written with permission. The names have not been used to protect the innocent.

We do handle cases where the spouse is coming to Florida…on business…right. We took a case from an out of state client that wanted her husband followed. She had a strong suspicion that his “business” involved more than making sales pitches for his company. We took the job, stayed in the same motel and pretty much shadowed him for four days. He was a good guy for the first three, but on day four, he went to dinner and sure enough, he met a young lady there and they sure looked like more than acquaintances. The embrace and kiss told us that there was probably something to the wives suspicion, but then there usually is. We followed them back to the hotel and they parked side by side and walked towards the lobby, arm in arm and talking about finally being alone. We were watching and using tools to obtain covert video. The evidence was definitively solid.

Our investigator contacted the client and told her what was going on. We even emailed her the pictures as proof. Now, we had not met the client as she lived out of state but you can imagine our surprise when she called the next morning and wanted to meet us off of the interstate about 11 miles from where we were. Immediately, we were concerned that this could be a very big problem.  Was she armed? Was she going to confront her husband and “friend”. These were some concerns that we had. She knew right where he was. She gave us the motel information to start with. We went and met her. She wanted to get a room at a different motel, get cleaned out and get some rest from driving all night and then she wanted to buy us supper…at whatever restaurant her husband went to. She assured us that she had no weapon and just wanted out of the marriage. She also thought that it would be great to walk in with a couple of other men and sit in the same restaurant where her husband was sitting with a girl that he had just spent the night with. It was decided that this would probably be the best way to have this happen. Letting her confront them outside might be problematic and we figured that we could better control the situation by doing it her way. One investigator went in alone and another walked in shortly thereafter, with the client. They were seated but hubby didn’t see her as it was a large restaurant and he was another area. He would certainly see her when he headed for the door though. It was just a matter of time.

Finally, the husband went towards the exit and saw his wife sitting there. He stopped and looked at her and asked what she was doing there. Her reply was priceless “I am doing the same thing that you are, only he is better, I pay him $ 50.00 an hour just to be with him. ” She then identified the investigator and her husband  started crying, his date was in shock too, just seeing the poor guys deceased wife was probably enough to really shake her up.

This worked out well for us, but it could have been much worse. We had to make a quick decision of how best to handle the confrontation which was going to happen with or without our help.

The two split up.

If you are going to cheat on your spouse, just be man or woman enough to admit that it’s over and end it with dignity. Unfortunately, marriages end all of the time, how we end them is a matter of honesty and fairness.

Florida Business Trip or Affair?

It happens all of the time. Your spouse, boyfriend or girlfriend is heading to Florida for business. You are left wondering if that is all they are doing. To much free time, too many bars and too much temptation. The weather here causes people to want to get some sun, jump into the ocean or swim in a pool. That means less clothing and with all of the bars serving all along the whole coast, things can and often do get out of hand. This is a common case for the Florida Infidelity investigator. Following someone from the airport to there motel room and from the room where ever they go. To save money, some clients just want them watched at night or on their weekend stay-overs.

We have followed targets that were doing nothing wrong but we have also followed some, male and female, that were having an affair. The internet has made this a very big problem that was much harder to do before this great technology came along. Now with so many meeting secretly on-line, your worst fears can come true in a big hurry. We have even caught happily married husbands coming to Florida and, just for recreation, were picking up prostitutes in the evening. Amazingly enough, some of them even took the paid date to their hotel rooms instead of going elsewhere. Why does this surprise us? Almost every quality hotel has surveillance equipment and they will provide copies of what their cameras picked up in answer to a subpoena. First, we provide the video that we have and then based on that, the divorce attorney can use that probable cause to go for the hotels if they desire.

People that are here on business, 100’s or even 1000’s of miles away from their wife, husband, boyfriend or girlfriend are generally more at ease and feel safe in the knowledge that their significant other is at home doing the things that they always do, just waiting for their return. If you suspect that they are messing around on you, don’t accuse or threaten them. This may make them concerned and suspicious and could make them harder to catch. Just relax as they leave, smile, give em a kiss goodbye, even muster a tear or two if you can because you know that the truth is coming and your private investigator in Florida is waiting for them.
